“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe." - Proverbs 18:10
When it is raining, people take umbrellas to protect themselves from getting wet. When it is sunny, people take an umbrella to shield themselves from the sun or run under the trees for shade. When we are sick, we go to doctors to get well. When children are afraid, they call or run straight to their parents. They believe that their parents will protect them.
In this life we face many troubles and difficulties, and we long for protection and shelter. The Holy Bible says, “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe” (Prov. 18:10). Our God is an Almighty God. His Name is a strong tower and is majestic (Ps. 8:1). His name is above all names (Phil. 2:9). When a righteous man is facing trials in his life, he runs into the Name of the Lord and finds safety and security. How many of us who have been purified by the blood of Jesus have the habit of running into the presence of the Lord? Do you know that His Name is a strong tower? Do you know that those who believe in Him completely always want to run into His arms when the trials of life come?
One day I was in Poipalli waiting for Pastor Suryam to go share the Gospel in a village. While I was waiting for him, God taught me a lesson. There were many chickens playing around nearby. I saw a cat coming toward them trying to catch a little chick. Every time the chicks saw a cat, they would run straight under their mother’s wings. Their mother would stretch out her wings happily and was always ready to wrap her wings around them. The chicks would peer out from under the wings and body of their mother. When I saw that, I took many pictures while the mother watched me closely. (I am posting a few with this message.) She was very protective of her chicks. When the mother saw the cat, she ran at it and clucked loudly to scare the cat away from her chicks. Actually, chickens are very easy prey. Many animals catch and eat them, but these little chicks felt secure under their mother.
If baby chicks, find protection under their mother, how much more protection does a believer have under our Father who loves us so much! How much more protection do believers have in the arms of our omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient God! We can rest knowing that He has us and He is a strong fortress and shield for us. There is power in the blood of Jesus and in His Name! No weapon formed against us will prevail! We have such a wonderful God! He wants all of His children to come to Him! Just like the mother hen was always ready and happy to receive her chicks, our Heavenly Father is always waiting with open arms to embrace and care for us.
Maybe you are facing problems like family problems, financial problems, health problems, loneliness, etc., but have you ran into the arms of your Heavenly Father and taken these problems to Him? Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Also, Psalm 91:1-4 discusses how God is a refuge and fortress for whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, and how He will cover us with His feathers and wings to give us refuge. Take whatever you are facing today, run to your Heavenly Father, and place them at His feet. Take refuge and rest in the arms of the Almighty God. Allow His Name to be your strong tower in the middle of any storm. There is no problem too big for Him. Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28). Whoever you are, He welcomes you. You will experience the great peace of God, if you run into His arms by trusting Him completely.
Prayer:
Our precious, mighty, majestic, strong Lord,
We thank You so much for being our ever-present help in times of trouble. Thank You for always being ready to receive and embrace us. Thank You for being our fortress, our shield, our strong tower. Lord, forgive us when we don’t run straight to you. Forgive us when we run to other people or try to find rest in things of this world. Help us first run straight to You. We love You so much. Bless Your Name which is above all names. Amen.
